Elephant Conservation

Collaring for
At-Risk Giants

Elephants are icons of planet Earth and keystone species vital to maintaining ecological balance. This project focuses on collaring three elephants in high-risk areas of Tsavo West and Mkomazi National Park, Tanzania, where their large tusks and human-wildlife conflict make them targets for poaching.

The Tsavo/Mkomazi ecosystem holds the largest elephant population in East Africa and connects the genetic pools of East and Southern African elephants, making this initiative critical for their survival and genetic diversity.

By collaring these elephants, we will be able to track their movements, mitigate harm, and establish early warning systems to safeguard both the elephants and the local communities. This proactive approach allows us to manage the elephants effectively, rather than simply reacting to conflict.

These collars will need to be replaced within two years to ensure long-term monitoring. We are seeking donations through Wild Spirit Foundation to support this critical conservation project, ensuring continuous protection and sustainable solutions for both wildlife and local populations.
